Booster Car Seats
When your child has outgrown their forward-facing seat then they should ride in a booster car seat. They should continue riding in the booster seat until adult seat belts fit them correctly. This is usually when the child is between 8 and 12 yearsof age and around 4 foot 9 inches in height.
Child Booster Car Seat
Booster car seats come in a high-back version and a backless version. They are designed to raise the child up in order for lap and shoulder seat belts of your vehicle to fit properly.
Child booster car seats usually include a guide or plastic clip to help ensure the proper use of the automobile's shoulder and lap seat belts.
Toddler Booster Car Seat
Never use a booster seat with the lap only seat belt. Make sure the shoulder belt crosses the middle of the child's chest and shoulder and that the lap belt lies low and snug across their upper thighs.
If your car only comes with lap belts then you may need to check and see if shoulder belts can be installed in your car or you might look into using a travel vest, some of which can be used with lap belts.
Convertible Booster Car Seat
Some booster car seats convert from high back boosters to backless boosters. The Evenflo Big Kid Booster is one example. The Graco Nautilus 3 in 1 Car Seat converts from a forward-facing seat to a high-back booster and then to a backless booster.

High Back Booster Seat
Both high-back booster seats and backless booster seats are designed to raise your child in order for seat belts to fit properly. Many booster car seats ae combination seats and come with harnesses which can be used for a small child and then they can be removed from the seat for older children.
Backless boosters are easier to move from car to car and are usually less expensive. They can be used safely in automobiles that have headrests and high seat backs.
